The Digital Literacy Project in Iraq issued a warning regarding the increasing use of smart devices in homes, such as connected TVs, voice assistants, and surveillance cameras, which may pose potential threats to user privacy if not properly secured.

The project explained that despite the convenience these devices offer, they may contain security vulnerabilities that allow data collection or user behavior tracking without users’ knowledge, especially when default settings are used or systems are not regularly updated.

It stressed that addressing these challenges requires enhancing digital awareness among users by following simple yet effective protective measures, including changing default passwords, regularly updating devices, disabling unnecessary features like cameras and microphones when not in use, and using secure internet networks.

The project concluded that technology itself is not the threat; rather, the real challenge lies in how it is used, urging users to act responsibly and stay informed to safeguard their personal data and privacy within smart homes.
