Consultant Engineer Duraid Dhari Al-Hayali, Director General of Educational Planning, participated in a meeting held by the Iraqi National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, attended by UNESCO representatives and relevant education bodies. The meeting discussed the draft policies for the third phase of the Green Technical and Vocational Education and Training project, TVET III, as part of efforts to modernize vocational education and respond to developments in the green economy and digital skills.

The meeting was part of preparations to approve the project's implementation for 2026–2027. Participants reviewed the final version of the general policy document, strategic objectives, and implementation phases.

Discussions also covered the development of seven vocational preparatory schools, emphasizing the integration of digital transformation skills, renewable energy, cybersecurity, and AI into curricula to meet contemporary labor-market needs.

Al-Hayali stressed the importance of sound planning and alignment with national education policies and sustainable development plans. This includes upgrading vocational institutions' infrastructure, improving administrative efficiency, and expanding training-of-trainers programs.

He said the project, implemented by the Ministry of Education in cooperation with UNESCO, targets 11 Iraqi provinces and aims to develop the skills of nearly three million young people through modern programs focused on the green economy and digital skills. It will also draw on practical experience from pilot activities in Al-Diwaniyah.
